What is tungsten carbide?
Tungsten carburide (chemical symbol: WC), is a carbide containing equal amounts of tungsten (tungsten) and carbon (carbon). Tungsten carbide, in its most basic form, is a fine gray dust. However, it can be shaped through a sintering process and used as industrial machinery, cutting tool, abrasives or armor-piercing cartridges.
Is tungsten carbide better than tungsten?
Tungsten carburide is a dense, grayish-blue metal that decomposes instead of melting at 2600degC. It is made by heating tungsten and black carbon powder at 1,400deg-1600degC (2.550deg-2.900degF) with hydrogen.
