tin iv selenide is a crystalline material used in semiconductor and photo optic applications. American Elements produces this product to many standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade), ACS, Reagent and Technical Grade; Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade; USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia) Optical Grade and is manufactured, packaged and shipped in accordance with appropriate ASTM testing standards. All tin(IV) selenide products are produced to the highest purity levels.

The tin(IV) selenide-thallium(I) selenide system is an excellent example of a layered metal chalcogenide with a common group 16 anion. [1] Both thallium(I) and tin(IV) have band-gap energies similar to those of silicon.

In bulk form, SnSe2 consists of two-dimensional Se-Sn-Se sheets stacked on top of one another, with each layer containing six selenium atoms and eight tin atoms in an octahedron geometry. SnSe2 crystals, which are bonded by weak Van der Waals interactions, can be exfoliated into monolayer and few-layer SnSe2 nanosheets by mechanical or liquid chemical exfoliation. SnSe2 powder is also suitable for preparation of ternary compounds, including the organotin tin(IV) selenide (dmampS)2Se (1, 2) and tin aminothiolate (dmampS)2Se (2, 3) compounds based on 1-(dimethylamino)-2-methylpropane-2-thiolate. 1H NMR spectroscopy of these compounds reveals two types of resonances, corresponding to the seesaw and distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometries of the molecular structures.
